Most guitarists learn scales as five boxes — and then get stuck in them. The shapes go in, but the fretboard never joins up, and the fingers keep returning to the same few frets. Root2Root was built to take you from the box to the whole neck, one small step at a time.
Pick a key and a scale and you're shown one octave, root to root, in the standard taught fingering. Run it up and down until it's in your hand. When you're ready, Variation moves one note to a new string, a little further each time, so your hand learns to range across the neck. Then the root you finished on becomes the root you start from, and the positions chain together until you know the whole fretboard rather than five separate boxes.
